About the Doula

Congratulations on your new baby!

The birth of a child is such an exciting time. A moment of magic. A miracle. Every. Single. Time.

As a DONA certified birth doula CD(DONA) and Alpha Certified Childbirth Educator (ACI) my goal is to help you to have the very best possible memories of this special moment by assisting you in becoming educated and informed, by supporting you throughout your pregnancy and birth, and by helping you to make your voice heard.

Being invited to participate in this special season is always a privilege. I look forward to assisting you in any way necessary to help your baby’s birth be a moment you look back on with joy, peace, and satisfaction.

A Mom of 8 children with my husband and high school sweetheart Terry, our family also includes eleven adorable grandchildren. Growing up in a large extended family, I have had a life-long passion for babies. Our first five children, including our twins, were born naturally at a little country hospital with our family practice doctors. Our next two children were born at home, one in Virginia and one in San Diego, with our last making her debut at a local birth center.  Attending births with family and friends through the years as my children were growing and later as my grandchildren began to arrive, strengthened my desire to assist other women in welcoming their new babies.

image In 2013, having already attended a number of births, I officially trained as a birth doula through DONA and became certified with DONA early in 2014. I am also certified as a childbirth educator through Alpha Childbirth International. In the 1990’s I trained as a La Leche League Leader and am currently training with Breastfeeding USA. I have extensive experience with breastfeeding including breastfeeding my own twins, relactating after developing puerperal sepsis, and overcoming a variety of challenges both large and small. I believe in evidence-based care and that birth, without interference, works as designed in the vast majority of cases. No matter what type of birth you choose for yourself and your baby – medicated or unmedicated; hospital, home or birth center; VBAC or cesarean – I provide non-judgmental support to help you achieve a birth you can look back on with good memories.
